Costa Bingo Unlocks the Poetry in the Players

The classic 'roses are red, violets are blue' poem was given the bingo treatment and the competition brought out a real creative streak in the online bingo room's many players.

Donna McTigue wrote: Roses are red, violets are blue, I luv Costa Bingo and I know you do too.

Not all the entries were quite as affectionate. Sarah Smith was the second entry in the competition and her verse boarded on the surreal: Roses are red, violets are blue, someone like you belongs in a zoo, don't be mad, don't be blue, Frankenstein was ugly too!

Her second entry was also a classic: Roses are red, violets are blue, most poems rhyme, but this one doesn't!

Poetry regular and up and coming Costa Bingo bard Valerie Crawley turned the classic verse on its head with an elegant poem:

Woke up this morning,
With a spring in my step,
No post on my doormat,
Oh what the eck,
If rosies are red,
And violets are blue,
Then send me a valentine,
I've sent one to you!

Costa Bingo room manager Debbie Gent said: "The response to this competition has been overwhelming and very funny. Everyone here has had a real belly laugh at some of the response to this competition.

"It's really great to get such positive feedback from all our players. It looks like we are doing something right," she said.

Several poems were along the lines of this one from Denise Townsend; Roses are red, violets are blue, Costa Bingo, I love you.

There was also a strong feel for positive social aspects of online bingo, as this poem from Marie Willis reflects:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue
I love Costa
Because you make my dreams come true,
I win I lose
But thanks to Costa,
I have made friends that are new!
