Online Bingo Gets More and More Popular
According to the UK Gambling Commission's annual report, bingo sales are continuing to increase this year. Despite the ongoing recessionary state of the economy, bingo is presenting impressive financial figures. In fact, sales have improved by 4.6% over the course of the year, a vast improvement over other forms of gambling that have seen steep declines. These findings indicate that the bingo industry is booming, as players continue to find the time and money to play bingo, even in a downturned economy.
The number of operators registered with the commission has dropped to 2166 this year, from 2224 in 2008. The number of land-based halls has also seen a decline, dropping from 675 to 641. These numbers reveal that the bingo industry has fought a difficult battle this year, due to the smoking ban, and the 22% bingo tax which caused a decline in land-based attendance.
The report also indicates that online bingo is steadily gaining a greater market share, as online operators are constantly luring new players with generous bonuses and unique gaming opportunities. When the land-based industry began seeing a staggering number of closures, the online bingo industry was there to pick up the slack, giving former land-based players the more convenient option of playing online. The 4.6% increase can largely be attributed to online bingo's persistence in seeing that that bingo industry stays afloat during the global recession. Free bingo has played a large role in online bingo's popularity growth as it offers a high level of entertainment at a low cost from home.
